Update 47: I’m not a workaholic, I just work a lot.
April 24th, 2006 by The Reverend MenagerieI’ve been working a lot of overtime again. This is partially due to a need to pay my family back for the help with my car, and partially because I don’t want to sit in an empty apartment anymore.
I’m lonely, tired, and in need of amusement (Sex too, but that’s not going to happen for a while). So, what does the tired and frustrated mp3 blogger blog about when he has time to blog? COVERS!
This will be a “covers” theme post. I decided this due to some new CDs that have some cover songs that well, made me wonder again “what the fuck?”. Since I’d like to try getting back to the old format, I’m going to try and put a comment with each song.
To kick this off, I thought I’d post a track from a CD I found in a dollar bin, and bought for the express purpose of posting here. I think Mojo Nixon said it best when he wrote a song titled “Don Henley Must Die”, and hearing this, I just have to scream “AMEN!”.
Don Henley - Everybody Knows (Leonard Cohen cover)
Track 2 comes from a favorite of mine, Late 80’s rock group Living Colour, and found in the same bit of dollar bin plunder. Aye, matey. Pirates. Yes. Too bad I owned the original CD already, but I still bought the remaster. Gave the original to one of my clients, who cannot figure out what the music is. I call it “good”.
Anyways, this is a cover of a classic song by The Clash.
Living Colour - Should I Stay Or Should I Go (The Clash cover)
Track three comes from another plunder, different store, and a few weeks ago. Bought for a phenomenally disappointing Aretha Franklin rendition of a Rolling Stones song, it did however give this little gem that I admit to finding ironic.
Ike & Tina Turner - Under My Thumb (Rolling Stones cover)
4th track, and not as much ironic as simply odd. I have no idea why I have this, who gave it to me, or what Snow Patrol is doing now, but they seem to have dropped off my radar in favor of other bands who will also drop off my radar, like Modest Mouse. At any rate, this appears to be semi-serious, which qualifies for a “what the fuck?” in my book.
Snow Patrol - Crazy In Love (Beyonce cover)
Fifth, and final track for the week hails from a mix CD sent to me by an old friend from a game we both used to play. He’s no longer playing, but I still have the CD. For some reason, I have this on my iPod, while the original annoys me at present.
Killing Heidi - Tomorrow (Silverchair cover)
I will try to work less, and update more. Really. I mean it this time.
