Update 50: Been a long time.
November 15th, 2006 by The Reverend MenagerieThe story.
It’s what I’ve hinted, but never truly talked about. That is not really going to change, because, quite frankly, it’s grown far too large to even try and explain.
The short version is simple: I got a divorce, the ex-wife is raping me via child support because she refuses to get a better job than working part-time at K-Mart. She is living with her parents, rent free, bill free, with my daughter. Because of this, I now have to work at least 60 hours per week to be able to afford my apartment, gas to get to work, the internet, and food.
The bright side is that I have a girlfriend who loves and supports me. She even understands me.
That was more than I probably needed to say.
This time, I’ve decided to forget about promising a “next week”. I do not know when I’ll post again. I’ll shoot for next week, but…we’ll see. I’ve also decided to try and put some of the longer version of the story into this week’s songs. I came close, but some of the story just doesn’t translate into someone else’s work.
Song 1 comes from Roger Clyne and his band, the Peacemakers. I’ve written about them before, and they still are a personal favorite of this particular blog.
Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers - City Girls
Song 2 comes from another southern-tinged outfit, but instead of the southwest dusty trails, it hails from the southeast, and makes no apologies for anyone they may offend. It’s been playing a lot in my iPod, especially on the drive home from work.
Nashville Pussy - Hate and Whiskey
Song 3. Atmosphere. Another personal favorite. Another song found a lot on my late-night drive home. Enough said.
Atmosphere - Modern Man’s Hustle
Song 4 comes from a semi-unknown alt-country artist whom I found years ago on a webzine, and finally got his last two albums. He’s on Myspace if you care to look. I truly hope this man can help turn country back to what it used to be, and not the dipshit redneck pop crap it’s been turned into. (For those of you who like modern country music, get your head out of your ass and pay attention)
Joshua Black Wilkins - Counting Shooting Stars
Finally, song 5 is from someone who I’m rather shocked I’ve never posted. Especially how much I tend to cycle through his music. I need not say more about Mr. Cave and the Bad Seeds, so….
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Lay Me Low
No promises on next time. Thanks to those who still read.
