Update 53: Simply pleasures and guilty vices.
April 27th, 2007 by The Reverend MenagerieI don’t drink. At least, not in any quantity likely to get me in trouble. I could drink alcohol, and a lot of it if so inclined, but I don’t. Mostly because with my stress levels at times, I probably wouldn’t stop drinking. Getting drunk would probably help blow off some stress, but I know myself, and know that I really don’t need anything to loosen my tongue or drop any inhibitions.
Reel Big Fish - Beer
I don’t smoke, but that’s more due to still having a touch of asthma. I should state that I’m talking about tobacco. Illegal substances, well, let’s just say I don’t do those either, but that’s more because I don’t have the money and I dislike prison food.
So, what are my vices? This was asked of me by someone on one of the message boards I frequent. I had to think a bit about my answers. I suppose the internet, music, and video games would be my vices. They also tend to be my releases.
Oddly, I am the same whether online or off. Those who know me from both can verify.
Work, on a good day, also helps me relax. I know this is different from the norm, but I really do love my job. I just get annoyed with one of my clients.
The Tubes - White Punks On Dope
The internet needs really no talking about. Without it, I wouldn’t be writing this, you wouldn’t be reading this, and we’d all still be forced to deal face to face with people more than is healthy.
Comments on this blog would probably stay about the same. I like comments that aren’t spam. Makes any blogger feel…read. I’m digressing, though.
Music is a major vice for me. Hardly a week goes by where I don’t buy a few CDs. I tend to get a lot from used stores, but I still buy the majority of my music. Probably because I’m an artist as well, though I’ve got nothing for anyone to buy at the moment. Maybe in a few weeks I’ll post one of my own songs here. I’ll think about it. I’m digressing again.
I always listen to music, whether it be driving or just late at night trying to relax. I usually have my iPod with me (a 40gig iPod Photo), and I rarely listen to local radio. The good stations tend to die, and the one “alternative rock” station in Pittsburgh thinks Metallica is modern alternative music.
Metallica is, or was, a good band. However, their last album sucked, and Lars is just a whiny bastard.
I’m still digressing.
William Orbit - Adagio For Strings
I play a lot of video games, time permitting. Generally I have a PSP and DS with me, and sneak a bit of that while waiting for my girlfriend to get out of work. Sometimes I play it when I’m home. I’ve been fond of Dead Rising, but I’m a zombie geek, so that’s probably expected. Pretty much any game with zombies I’ll play. Same with movies. I’ve got a small collection of zombie movies, and when the Sci-Fi channel has one on, guess what’s on the TV at work.
Gives one of my clients nightmares, but since he gives me headaches, I almost feel it balances out.
Meat Loaf - The Monster Is Loose
I should probably talk about guilty vices. Wish I had some. I don’t really have any vices or even liked that I feel a need to have guilt over. I don’t smoke, I don’t drink, you can’t kill anyone by eating at a fast food joint, you can’t kill anyone by playing video games (regardless of what that asshole Jack Thompson thinks).
I try not to hurt people. I know I could, and I know I can be hurt. I try to give people the freedom I want. My girlfriend gives me more than I ever though possible. My ex-wife, well, she doesn’t “give” anything. That’s another story.
Insane Clown Posse - Nothing’s Left
See you on the 4th.
